Waxing FAQ
What’s the difference between a Bikini Line Wax, a French Bikini Wax, and Brazilian?
A bikini line wax is a modest wax that removes hair from just outside the underwear line to just inside the underwear line. It also removes hair a bit on the inner thigh.
A French bikini wax goes in further than the bikini line wax, so there is just a narrow strip of hair in front. It also includes hair removal up to the labia but does not take any hair off the labia.
A Brazilian bikini wax takes all the hair off the front, all the hair off the labia, and all the hair out of the behind. You can leave a strip or a triangular shape in front if you don’t want all your hair gone.
You can add “the behind” to the bikini line wax or the French bikini wax for $6.
How long do I have to let my hair grow before getting waxed?
You want at least 2 weeks of hair growth after shaving for a good wax result but I really prefer 3 weeks. The more hair the better. Any less than 2 weeks of growth and you won’t get a smooth, long-lasting result.
Plan to return every 4-6 weeks for maintenance waxes.
What can I do to prepare for a wax?
For the most part, waxing is come as you are (as long as you have about 3 weeks of hair growth). A good exfoliation will prep your skin for the best results. If you are worried about pain, you could take an ibuprofen 30 minutes before your appointment.
Can you get waxed when you’re on your period?
Absolutely. Just put in a tampon and we are good to go.
What can’t be waxed?
I cannot wax your skin if you’ve recently been in the sun or a tanning bed.
Nor can I wax you if you’ve been using a retinol such as Retin A, Renova, or acne medications such as Accutane.
I cannot wax male beards, nor do I do male bikinis, male French bikinis, or male Brazilians.
Will you trim my bikini?
I will not trim bikinis. Trimming can be very unsanitary. The trimmed hair can get on the floor, in the air, and on all other surfaces that can then be transferred to guest's feet and who knows where else. It’s the best for everyone if no trimming happens in the treatment room at Buena Cera.
How long do the results of waxing last?
Every time you get waxed, provided you don’t shave in between, your hair will grow in a little slower, a little sparser and a little softer. Though, your first wax may not be perfectly smooth or necessarily super long lasting. Hair grows in different cycles and depending on you and your hormones and how long you let your hair grow out before the wax, you may have another growth cycle pop through the skin within a few days of your first few waxes. Your results will last longer and longer each time you wax.
Do you wax men?
I currently do not do male Brazilians, bikinis, or thong waxes. I do, however, do lots of male backs, chests, arms, legs, brows, ears and nostrils.
Can you get waxed when you’re pregnant?
For sure. Lots of women start waxing while pregnant because of the gradual inability to see the bikini line for shaving. Some pregnant ladies report being a little more sensitive to waxing during pregnancy but not all. We will have extra pillows to position behind your back and we can experiment with body positions to make sure you are comfortable during your wax.
Can I bring my kids to my appointment?
I love kids, but this isn’t the best environment for them. There are a lot of cords and things they can trip on in the room and I’m surrounded by massage therapy rooms that prefer a quieter environment. Also, this is YOU TIME, so leave the kids at home so you can focus on yourself.
